The Sr Backup and Recovery Engineer role includes leading the design, configuration, development, integration, testing, implementation, documentation and support of Backup infrastructure environments. Manage the building of Backup Infrastructure services through a deep understanding of application backup and recovery requirements. Works closely with Architecture, Storage, Cloud and Operational teams to develop, apply and support for Enterprise Backup and Recovery Infrastructure processes, tools and environments.
Analyze, design, and implement mission critical backup and recovery infrastructure/architecture and ensure high levels of data quality and availability. Affinity for innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Work with business and application development teams to extract requirements and propose appropriate backup and recovery solutions and standards.
Create and maintain procedures that meet operational, regulatory, and company policies. Ensure consistent backup and recovery availability and capabilities. Establish and maintain documentation of the current technology state and effectively propose enhancements.
Create and maintain optimal backup, restore and redundancy solutions for business critical data. Perform capacity planning and performance tuning as it relates to the backup infrastructure. Upgrade software, apply patches, and ensure physical security of data.
Oversee and perform diagnosis, troubleshoot, and conduct root-cause analysis for any issues on the backup and recovery platforms. Confidence to make quick technical decisions under pressure in complex situations.
Lead the creation of documentation for backup and recovery environments. The documentation would include: standard operating procedures, solutions, knowledge base articles and applicable project documentation.
Evaluate input and output for systems, as well as overall architecture, to recommend improvements. Design disaster recovery plans and enforce backup and archival procedures.
Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation for critical situation management. Strong work ethic and team spirit.
Research and identify industry trends in the storage and backup space, leveraging new ideas to improve the service design and support for the customer base
Bachelors degree or Associate degree or combination of equivalent work/education experience.
5-7 years experience to multiple hardware platforms, and integrated information management systems
Exceptional technical skill and excellence with Commvault software including integrations with PureStorage, NetApp, Vmware, SQL and cloud solutions.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of Backup and Recovery Security Practices
Experience with Commvault extended retention library and cloud (Azure/AWS/Google).
Solid technical knowledge of VMware and other Virtualization Technologies
Expert knowledge in core enterprise infrastructure.
Experience with Oracle ZFS.
Expert technical knowledge of supporting Hardware including Intel, Cisco and SAN / NAS environments.
Experience supporting multi-site datacenters.
Ability to take call as needed
Professional or Master Commvault certification level.
Experience with ServiceNow to include incident and change management.
Advanced knowledge of database backup/recovery for SQL/Oracle/Cache.
Exposure to multiple operating system environments (AIX/Linux/Windows/Exadata)
