This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The LPN GS-06, under the direct supervision of the RN, MD, DO, NP or PA is held accountable for delivering direct patient care to adult through geriatric aged patients. He/she recognizes the age related needs and demonstrates knowledge and care appropriate to that age group. The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Carries out basic and advanced nursing procedures with knowledge of the underlying principles of the procedure, increased skill and accuracy in carrying out more complex technical procedures and exactness in working with degree of illness and helplessness in patients. Performs assigned duties with close supervision by registered nurse; Collects data and collaborates in the assessment of the health status of a patient; Performs inspections related to safety, health and welfare, security, and privacy; Prepares and administers medication; oral, topical, rectal, vaginal, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intradermal and per inhaler; Documents medication administration accurately, noting changes and reporting any deviations from normal to RN or MD/DO; Performs safe set-up, reprocessing and maintenance/cleaning for reusable medical equipment according to manufacturer's instructions; Recognizes and appropriately responds to breakage/malfunction or loss of equipment, safety hazards and supply deficiencies, promptly reporting to appropriate personnel for corrective action; Serves as an advocate for the patient by communicating and collaborating with other health service personnel as delegated; Fosters an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery; Serves as a preceptor in orienting, educating, and training less experienced LPNs/LVNs or NAs/HTs related to support duties for these more complex, specialized procedures/tests; and Demonstrates proficiency in administering intravenous medication and intravenous access according to Medical Center policy. The New England VA Medical Centers are acute care facilities operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week. While most tours of duty are scheduled during the day, the possibility of working evenings, nights and weekends to exist.
