The incumbent serves as a Mental Health Section Chief, for the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP). He/She has broad managerial, supervisory, and program management responsibility for the oversight and coordination of Psychiatrists, Physicians (non-psychiatrist), BHIP Manager/Supervisors, Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Addiction Therapists, etc. assigned to deliver specialized professional services that significantly impact health care provided to veterans. Other duties include, but are not limited to: Program management responsibilities include the development of short and long- range goals and plans, development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure goal attainment, management of administrative and programmatic resources, and outcomes monitoring using data-driven quality assurance processes. The Section Chief ensures that psychologists provide the highest quality of mental health care to veterans utilizing evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines. The incumbent is responsible for Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) reviews for all psychologists assigned to the incumbent's areas of responsibility (i.e., section). Effectively managing and supervising the section's resources including staff, funds, space and equipment-utilized in the development and direction of the mental health services, consultations, research, and training provided the veterans and staff of the medical center. Works with chiefs and supervisors of other services/organizations to resolve any substantive problems or areas of concern; when deemed necessary, advises higher level management of problems, and assesses the impact of those problems on Mental Health Service programs and those of related services/organizations.
