This Addiction Therapist position is responsible for the delivery of Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Medical Center's Health Coach program, including provision of care through coaching and promotion and education regarding Whole Health Coaching to Veterans and staff. This position is assigned to a dual diagnosis clinic serving substance abuse and other psychiatric diagnoses such as: PTSD, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. This clinic operates in Mental Health Service. Duties to include but are not limited to: Serves as primary counselor for assigned patients. Deals with day to day clinical issues or patient problems and brings these problems or issues to the attention of the treatment team. Conducts lectures and holds individual and group counseling sessions on a broad range of therapeutic topics designed to motivate and direct dual diagnosis patients with more complex psychiatric as well as chemical abuse problems, toward a healthier and drug free lifestyle. Assists patients in accepting their substance abuse/mental illness and motivates them to comply with treatment goals and objectives in order to prevent relapse and maintain stability. Conducts counseling with patients and families to sustain the treatment gains made in the program. Fully participates in administrative meetings, treatment planning and patient/staff conferences Observes patient behavior and discusses with appropriate staff to unsure that attention is given to changes in patient progress or motivation and that clinic and medical center rules and policies are followed.
