This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Learn more The VA Northern California Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Psychologist- Quality Improvement for the Mental Health Service at either the McClellan or Martinez locations. The Mental Health (MH) Quality Improvement Staff Psychologist is accountable for the ongoing development and maintenance of a continuous readiness program which ensures facility accreditation and compliance with external accrediting standards and internal performance expectations as delineated in VHA guidelines and directives. They make independent professional decisions and recommendations to the Associate Chief of Staff/Mental Health. The incumbent will promote a culture of continuous readiness within an enterprise risk management framework, driving improvement and developing processes which support safe and efficient patient care delivery. They are responsible for strategic planning to ensure the provision of high quality services to meet the needs of the Veteran's being served. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Uses clinical knowledge to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of clinical performance within the facility, using data collected by internal and external monitoring processes. Uses ongoing strategic and systemic processes to gather data and assess and improve the quality and timeliness of MH services provided to Veterans. Uses clinical knowledge to provide day-to-day evaluation of situations which might not meet accreditation and VHA standards, implementing strategies to develop performance improvement plans. Uses clinical knowledge to complete individual quality reviews and/or case assessments to determine which improvement efforts are necessary to improve care delivery. Implements relevant improvement strategies, which may include, but are not limited to, one-on-one teaching, group educational sessions, and process redesign and/or review. Provides oversight and recommendations of all MH Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited programs. Develops presentations and talking points for service leadership to present on the state of the service in regards to facility and national metrics. Translates theories, strategies, and national policies into action within the complex interrelationships that exist related to continuous readiness. Represents MH at various health care system/facility committees and meetings as assigned and directed. Chairs committees or ad hoc groups aimed at accreditation preparation, continuous readiness, and/or meeting facility performance standards. Works with staff throughout the healthcare system to develop corrective action plans which address deficiencies in practice and opportunities for improvement. Conducts psychological assessments and treatment with patients suffering from a range of psychiatric disorders, consistent with privileges and clinical area of expertise.
