**If you are not a current permanent VA employee or Federal employee from another agency, you should apply to CBST-11224362-21-DL.** The Senior Social Worker provides clinical psychotherapy services to the Veteran population enrolled in a Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) team at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. The CBOC Senior Social Worker provides independent and expert clinical psychosocial and case management services in a specialized area of practice to Veterans who tend to have serious and severe crises, may lack any familial and community support, may be poor self-monitors, may frequently fail to comply with instructions and treatment, or may have major deficits in coping skills and require continuing professional psychological support that are evidence based. Utilizing an increased depth and breadth of practice skills; the Senior Social Worker participates in the professional development of colleagues through mentorship and teaching; demonstrates leadership in developing and expanding professional intervention strategies; demonstrates leadership in defining and attending to professional practice issues; and has the ability to expand the conceptual knowledge of the profession. Duties include, but are not limited to: Provides case management, clinical treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers; Evaluation and assessment of clinical need, diagnosis and treatment for those Veterans in the CBOC population in need of clinical psychotherapy intervention aimed at recovery; Provides Evidence Based psychotherapy for mental health conditions including but not limited to depression, anxiety, insomnia, and substance abuse that are recovery focused; Initiates and directs the discharge planning process for assigned patients and recommends/initiates appropriate placement or follow-up intervention actions, often in instances where actions can have serious impact on the life of the patient; Serves as Mental Health Treatment Coordinator/Clinical Case Manager for assigned veterans within the CBOC clinical population who are identified as being at moderate to high risk of suicide; Provides guidance, emotional support, counseling, individual and group psychotherapy services to include highly specialized services requiring senior training and experience in the treatment of problems unique to military Veteran populations where indicated; Maintains a current and productive network of referral resources (i.e., transitional or halfway houses, shelters, etc.), and other governmental agencies that can assist the patient in resolving problems; Organizes community services on behalf of beneficiaries, developing and coordinating procedures for use of these services by related staff; Maintains and utilizes internal VA/community social service program psychotherapy resource files to the benefit of Veterans.
