This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks and the announcement will close once a selection is made*** The Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC) incumbent and the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) incumbent at the Downtown Clinic of the San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS) identifies and engages Veterans who are not only homeless or marginally housed and who underutilize VA services, but Veterans who are also housed. The incumbent provides Veterans with a range of social work services, including assessment, clinical treatment, case management, advocacy and service coordination, and linkage with VA and community services. This is accomplished in concert with other members of the Downtown CBOC interdisciplinary team. The incumbent possesses knowledge and is sensitive to the needs of the homeless population. Has working knowledge and experience in the use of medical, mental health, and substance abuse treatment modalities. Is able to complete a comprehensive psychosocial assessment to identify strengths, needs, social support systems, disabilities, and barriers to accessing housing and available treatment options. Has general knowledge of Veteran's benefits and services related to special programs, service-connected compensation, non-service connected pensions, and benefits that are available on the federal and state levels, and through city/county social services. The incumbent is sensitive to the needs of homeless Veterans and their families, realizing that homelessness creates added stress for Veterans and their loved ones. The incumbent is aware of the special challenges in working with Veterans with co-morbid physical, mental health and substance abuse diagnoses, and works well with this Veteran population. The incumbent is responsible for outreach to homeless Veterans and can work confidently with city/county agencies to increase resources for "street homeless" or marginally housed Veterans. The goal is to increase stability in Veterans' lives and assist Veterans in returning to independent, healthy, productive lifestyles. The incumbent is familiar with community resources and is able to assist and refer Veterans to appropriate community service providers. The incumbent is available to work evening hours, as needed, to meet the needs of Veterans that are not able to be seen from 8:00am to 4:30pm or for evening groups.
