This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. DUTIES: The Psychiatrist will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services for Veterans in an outpatient psychiatry clinic, psychiatric inpatient units, and psychiatric emergency department setting. The psychiatrist will provide consultation services to inpatients and to residents of the Community Living Center and residents of the Residential Rehabilitation programs. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains a clinical caseload including individual and/or group treatment at the Atlanta VAMC. Exact nature of clinical responsibilities may vary depending on incumbent's areas of expertise and service line needs. Provides psychiatric care to Veterans at the Atlanta VAMC Emergency Room, to include triage, stabilization, hospitalization or disposition planning, as well as to Veterans evaluated and treated on the inpatient psychiatry unit. ACADEMIC/TEACHING/TRAINING: Provides supervision, guidance, teaching and consultation to Atlanta VAMC MHSL clinical staff including psychiatry residents and fellows as well as other clinical trainees and clinical staff. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Demonstrates knowledge of changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric age groups; ability to assess and interpret data about the patient's status; and ability to identify age-specific needs and provide the appropriate care based upon the age-related factors. Demonstrates knowledge of population specific needs associated to cultural and environmental contexts of the Veteran and appropriately adjusts assessments and interventions to address these population-specific needs. Incumbent is culturally aware of the bio-psychosocial needs of the homeless population and the services required to adequately serve this population.
