The position functions as an interdisciplinary team member, assisting physicians and other professional/non-professional personnel in a rehabilitation treatment program. Peer specialists perform a variety of therapeutic and supportive tasks that Include assisting Veterans in . articulating their goals for recovery, learning and practicing new skills, helping them monitor their progress, assisting them in their treatment, modeling effective coping techniques. Major duties include but are not limited to: Observes behaviors that might indicate difficulty adapting or responding to treatment. Helps Veterans in advocating for themselves. Inspires hope that recovery and resiliency are achievable goals. Assists by promoting self-determination. Orients Veterans new to the Recovery Program. Provide one-to-one and group sessions to assists Veterans to articulate personal goals and recovery. Assists Veterans in exploring options for obtaining housing. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assists Veterans in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plan. Assists with the execution of the recovery plan and monitors progress. Informs Veterans about community and mutual support. Assists Veterans in developing empowerment skills. Conducts regular meetings. Serves as a liaison with community-based consumer-run and/or consumer-supportive organizations. Assists in obtaining services that suit the individual's recovery needs. Utilize the Wellness Recovery Action Plan(WRAP). Functions as a role model. Provides support of Veterans' vocational choices. Assists Veterans in choosing a job that matches their strengths. Assist Veterans in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition. Participates in the service training, consultation and other professional activities and functions of the multidisciplinary team. Complete appropriate documentation and reports concerns to the treatment or recovery team. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
